At the foot of the Swabian Alb, halfway between Stuttgart and Lake Constance, lies the idyllic village of Zwiefalten. It was here that the monks of the Zwiefalten Benedictine Order founded the monastic brewery in 1521.
In the historic walls, where the monks once brewed their beer, the Zwiefalter Klosterbräu BRAUHAUS will open its doors in May 2022. The completely redesigned BRAUHAUS with 140 seats and a large sun terrace is open 6 days a week, Wednesday is a day of rest. Thursdays to Saturdays there is with the small evening menu even until midnight warm kitchen. Across from the BRAUHAUS, the idyllic Zwiefalter Klosterbräu BIERGARTEN invites you to stop in on weekends from mid-May to October amid postcard scenery.

First tank beer bar in the region
As the first tank beer bar in the region, the hand-brewed Zwiefalter beer is also visually the focus of our brewhouse:
Copper storage tanks tower above the bar and are perfectly embedded in the historic cross vault. From the brewery’s rock cellar, the brewing specialties such as our “1521” are piped directly into the beer tanks and freshly tapped from there.
Our young kitchen team always cooks fresh and homemade, with regional ingredients from the Swabian Alb and Upper Swabia. On the menu are delicacies like spare ribs or the 1521 BBQ Burger, as well as Swabian classics like the popular Zwiebelrostbraten or Balsamico Alblinsen with Spätzle. The ambiance, beers and food are second to none and are complemented with seasonal recommendations and events.

500 years of Zwiefalter brewing tradition
In 1521, the Zwiefalter monastic brothers brewed their first beer, laying the foundation for 500 years of Zwiefalter brewing tradition. Good things last – and so we still brew today in our private brewery according to the traditional heritage of the Benedictines and with the good gifts of local nature: QZBW brewing barley from the Swabian Alb, Tettnang hops and brewing water from our own well.
Traditional brewing methods, patience and plenty of time for maturing turn valuable raw materials into beers with a special character. Like 1521, our most popular beer. The “Fuffzehnoisazwanzg” is a light full-bodied beer, wonderfully drinkable and malty in taste with 11.8 percent original wort and 5.1 percent alcohol.
Beer experiences from brewery tour to beer course
Our beer experts will give you an exclusive look behind the walls of our current private brewery. During the entertaining tour you will pass through many stations from the brewhouse, rock cellar and the bottling / barrel filling.
You want to try your hand right away? Here you go! Under the expert guidance of our beer expert, you will brew your own 1521. In the sociable mini-brewery in beer heaven, you can experience this first-hand with all your senses, just like in the days of the Benedictines. Grinding, mashing, purifying: everything is the same here as in today’s brewery. In addition, you get the opportunity to tap a beer perfectly, because your own tap belongs to you during the brewing course. The highlight of the course is a visit to our cold rock cellar, where you will be able to tap 1521 exclusively from the lager tank, just like the master brewers. To round off this wonderful event, you will then have dinner together in our brewery inn. The beer brewed by you can be picked up 6 weeks later in our beer heaven.
